ITC Tactile:

Joe Stitzlein created ITC Tactile in 2003. His objectives were to design an energetic and contemporary serif font as well as create a legible typeface that gets the attention of the readers in a nice “tactile” way, as the designer expressed. This type is easy to read at text sizes, but the details that make it stands out from the rest of traditional designs do not appear until the type size is increased. Elegance and stately is combined with a bold design that seems to appear cheerful. Moreover, the alphabet merges two different serif designs, which are created on purpose. “The transitional serif is an entry point for the eye into the letterform, and the long slab is an exit, leading to the next letter” as Stitzlein stated. He also designed the small caps to match the height of the lowercase x-height. ITC Tactile family is available in three weights besides the italic designs as well as a set of small caps for each of the roman designs.

Although ITC Tactile was his first commercial type design, Joe Stitzlein designed Monolein Slanted, as well. This American designer has a lot of experience creating typefaces for corporate branding such as Silicon Graphics or Sempra Energy. Also, he has worked for Apple Computer and the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, among others.
